IPMA Level D Certification |

| The IPMA Level D certificate is part of the International Project Management Association’s (IPMA) 4 Level Certification (4LC) scheme. IPMA is the only global not for profit Project Management Association that offers a complete career growth path through its 4 levels of certifications – A, B, C and D based on 4 levels of competence. 4LC which is accredited to ISO 17024 is a well recognized, widely used certification scheme. |
| IPMA encourages the growth of national PM Associations and currently has Member Associations from 50 countries worldwide including all European countries, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, India, China, S. Africa, Egypt etc. |
| Project Management Association (PMA), India, a non-profit association that was formed in 1993 is the national association of project managers in India and is the Indian Member of IPMA. PMA has many chapters throughout India. |
Institute of Project Management Certification (IPMC)is a separate not for profit registered society that is recognized by IPMA as India's national Project Management Certification Body. The IPMA 4 Level Certifications A, B, C and D as well as CIPM are Administered and Conferred by Institute of Project Management Certification (IPMC).
Each Certification Body administers the 4LC exams in their country only. |
Level D certificate which is the initial level certificate in the 4LC scheme assesses the candidate through a written knowledge based exam. C and B certificates test the candidate's knowledge + a Project Report on projects done by them + assesses the candidates ability to apply both Hard and Soft competence elements. Level A is only for top professionals who have directed complex portfolios or programmes.

| IPMA Level D Certification Details |
| The examination syllabus is based on the IPMA Competence Baseline (ICB) Version 3.0 which has been fully adopted by India as its National Competence Baseline (NCB). IPMA released the ICB in June 2006. |
| The ICB has 46 competence elements divided into the following 3 sections: |
- Technical competence elements which has 20 elements
- Behavioral competence elements which has 15 elements
- Contextual competence elements which has 11 elements

Eligibility requirements:
Degree holders should have 500 days of working experience and Diploma holders 1000 days of working
experience in the last 5 calendar years in the generic field of project management. |
Examination details :
This is a 4 hour Paper/Pencil exam that is administered by Institute of Project Management Certification (IPMC). Currently the exam is held at the same time and date in many locations across India on the 2 nd Sunday of every quarter.
The exam dates announced are: 8 th August 2010; xx November 2010; xx February 2010 |
| IPMA Level D examination is a 4 hour examination and comprises of 2 Papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2. |
| Paper 1 : (Duration - 2 hours) - is a multiple choice objective paper and has 2 Sections-Section 1 and Section 2. |
| Section 1: - This has 140 questions with 4 multiple choices. Candidate has to make 1 selection from the 4 choices. Each question carries 1 mark. (140 selections, 140 marks) |
| Section 2: -This has 10 detailed objective type questions requiring multiple selections. Each question will have 8 - 12 options. Candidate will have to select 3 - 5 options in each question. Number of selections required will be mentioned in the question. Section 2 will have a total of 35 selections. Each right selection carries 1 mark irrespective of the total selections to be made in the question. (35 selections, 35 marks). |
Paper 1 carries 175 marks including both sections. Pass marks are 60% combining both sections i.e. 105 out of 175 marks.
There is no Negative Marking in Paper 1 |
Paper 1 questions will cover the ICB competence elements as follows:
- 70% - Technical competence elements
- 15% - Behvaioural competence elements
- 15% - Contextual competence elements

| Paper 2 : (Duration - 2 hours)- Paper 2 will contain 8 questions out of which any 5 are to be answered. The questions will be numerical type based on Networks, Calculations / Graphs, tools & techniques etc. |
Note: This paper will not require detailed English essay type answers.
Paper 2 carries 125 marks Pass marks is 60% i.e. 75 marks out of 125 marks to clear Paper 2. Each question carries 25 marks and it may or may not have sub-parts.
There is no Negative Marking in Paper 2
Candidates must clear both Paper 1 & Paper 2 to obtain the Level D certificate. |
| Re-Examination |
| In case a candidate fails to clear the exam they can reappear in the paper they have not cleared by paying the requisite fee to Institute of Project Management Certification (IPMC) |

| Steps to appear for the IPMA Level D Certification- The Level D exam is administered by PMCert |
- Complete the IPMA Level D Application Form and Experience Verification Information(EVI) Form.The forms can be downloaded from the Institute of Project Management Certification (IPMC) / PMA website.
- Enclose resume, one coloured passport size photograph & requisite fee with the application form.
- Clearly specify the exam center of your choice.
- Prepare thoroughly as per the syllabus for the exam through self study/class room training/e-learning.
