Q. 7 How do project manager track the project?

Ans.

Project Manager tracks the project in MS Project through tracking Gantt view. The baseline and tracking of the Project Tasks is done in the Tracking Gantt view. Tracking Gantt is used when we are ready with the planning of Project Tasks (Time Planning & Resource Planning complete). The project is saved as a target. When we save the project into baseline each tasks Duration, Start Date, Finish Date, Work (Effort) and Cost is saved into Baseline fields. When we Track /Update the Project Tasks we will get the Variances of each and every task if there is any change has happened in the above mentioned fields.

Anytime values are edited in the following fields, Actual Start, Actual Finish, Actual Duration, % Complete, and Physical % Complete, this indicates that the task has started. There are several options that effect how these fields and there interrelated fields are recalculated. Below is a list of different methods or features used to track progress in a project plan.

  • Editing fields that affect progress.
  • Using the Update Project or Update Task commands.
