Perhaps the most commonly held definition of the word theory is "abstract thought". Let's begin with another definition: "a plausible or scientifically acceptable general principle or body of principles offered to explain phenomena". In other words, phenomena exist for a reason. In the world of systems, which require human intervention, or human-based organizations, these phenomena are called problems or pressing issues with which we must contend.
Which is more effective, to treat the symptoms or the cause of the symptoms? Intuitively we know that it is much more effective to treat the cause and not the symptoms.
